What is My Brand?
Welcome back to The Urban Quill! For this second blog post, I want to take you behind the curtain and dive into the heart of my author brand. My brand isn’t just a name or a logo; it’s a reflection of my life, my dreams, and the stories I’m so excited to share with you. It’s personal, magical, and deeply meaningful—and today, I’m here to show you exactly why.
A Dream Come True
For me, my brand is the realization of a fantasy I never thought I could achieve. Growing up in a world filled with violence and tough circumstances, I didn’t believe I could ever rise above my environment. As a child, I couldn’t imagine becoming more than the sum of my struggles. Yet, here I am, living proof that from pain, discomfort, and trauma, something beautiful and powerful can emerge.
My brand symbolizes resilience and dedication. It stands as a testament to the fact that no matter where you start, no matter what you’ve been through, you can create something extraordinary. For me, it’s not just about being an author named Robinette Rankin—it’s about being a survivor, a dreamer, and a storyteller who can turn hardship into magic.
What My Brand Means to You
When readers see my name or my logo, I want them to feel a rush of excitement and anticipation. My brand promises adventure, magic, conflict, and emotion—an escape into a world that’s both dark and enchanting. I want my stories to make you laugh, cry, and feel every emotion in between. When you see my logo, I want you to think, I’m in for a ride.
More than anything, my brand is about connection. I hope my stories resonate with you on a deep level. Whether it’s through the magic, the heartbreak, or the triumph, I want you to feel seen, encouraged, and inspired by the journeys of my characters.
The Symbols Behind the Brand
For my author logo, I chose something deeply personal: my initials, R. Rankin, paired with a Robin Redbreast and a quill. The feather of the quill symbolizes the robin’s own feather, tying everything together in a way that feels true to who I am. It’s classic yet uniquely me, representing my love for storytelling and my connection to my name.
For my production brand, Pretty Bird Productions, I went even further into my imagination. The logo features a black fairy with vibrant, colorful bird wings. She is everything I aspire to be: beautiful, intelligent, and magical. Her bird wings, instead of traditional butterfly wings, connect her to the robin once again. To me, she symbolizes freedom, creativity, and the ability to create magic wherever she goes. She is me at my very best, and she’s the heart of everything that comes out of Pretty Bird Productions.
What Sets My Brand Apart
What makes my brand unique? Simply put, it’s me. My life has been a tapestry of unique experiences—some joyful, some painful, but all meaningful. From being a teen mom to working as a stingray wrangler, my journey has been anything but ordinary. These experiences have shaped not only who I am but also the stories I tell.
My brand is rooted in empathy and resilience. I’ve lived through the kinds of struggles that many people can relate to, and I’ve come out the other side stronger. That perspective infuses my writing with authenticity and depth, making my stories not just entertaining but also impactful.
Reflecting My Vision as a Creator
As a writer, my brand is an extension of my vision. It’s a way to share my dreams, fears, and experiences with the world. Every character I create, from the protagonist to the antagonist, carries a piece of me. Whether it’s a fear I’ve faced, a dream I’ve nurtured, or a lesson I’ve learned, it’s all there in the fabric of my stories. My brand is about living life to its fullest and sharing those experiences through words.
Looking to the Future
The future of my brand is bright and filled with possibilities. Beyond my trilogy, I have so many projects in the works. There’s a comedic series about a supernatural therapist working with clients like a blood-averse vampire and a werewolf who refuses to transform. There’s also a dramatic crime novel that explores love and connection in the midst of heartbreak and violence. Each project adds another layer to my brand, showcasing its versatility and depth.
I also envision my brand expanding into merchandise, community engagement, and perhaps even adaptations of my stories into TV series or films. I dream of connecting with readers who love my work and seeing my characters come to life in new ways.
The Personality of My Brand
If my brand were a person, it would be feisty, loving, and adventurous.
Feisty: Because it’s strong, resilient, and unafraid to stand up for itself.
Loving: Because it’s built on empathy and a desire to connect with people from all walks of life.
Adventurous: Because it’s all about exploring new worlds, new ideas, and new possibilities.
A Legacy of Love and Magic
At its core, my brand is my life. It’s who I am, who I’ve been, and who I aspire to be. It’s the neighbor next door, the unexpected hero, and even the unexpected villain. It’s all of it—because I’ve lived it, and now I’m sharing it with you.
When people see my brand, I hope it leaves a lasting impression. I want it to be a symbol of stories that moved them, characters they’ll never forget, and adventures they’ll always cherish. More than anything, I hope it’s something my children can be proud of—a legacy of love, resilience, and magic.
